Love Thought: What Does Love Have To Do With It?
“What Does Love Have To Do With It?”
In retrospect, our view and comprehension on the reality of love. For most like me my definition of love was formed based upon my life’s experiences the good, the bad and the ugly. To me love was conditional so I had to protect myself from anyone who didn’t respect me. This was my understanding B.C. I learned to mask my personal pain rather than be honest because I was afraid of being rejected or laughed at.
After I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior I began a new journey of growth and development. Academic achievement is nice, but it does not mean one has attained knowledge or understand of a key foundation of the principle called LOVE. There are many reference materials to choose from in an attempt to define LOVE. No matter who you are or where you’ve been our attempt to explain LOVE is only minuscule at best. I’ve learned the more I look to HIM (JESUS) the more I understood how flawed I really am. No matter how organized and proper I wanted to be I learned my motive was about masking again my personal reality as opposed to being transparent with the Lord. In truth I was afraid to even trust Him fully with my life and the baggage I’ve been carrying. This revealed how deep my personal relationship had gotten. When ones view is obscured (through fear, rejection, low self-esteem, etc.) it becomes difficult to see clearly ahead in life.
For me, I learned God’s love through the various challenges I endured. Sure I wanted the ‘abra-cadabra’ to occur. We all learn (develop and grow) at different paces as individuals. When I became transparent before the Lord, I began to discover that He really loved me. For most of my life I had always felt I had to prove myself to be loved (approved of, having value and self-worth). But I can say today emphatically He is my Father and I am His son.
